SAP S/4HANA is designed to enable companies to efficiently modernize their ERP software landscape and leverage the opportunities of digitalization—particularly through much faster data processing, real-time analytics, and the use of new technologies.
This makes the system a powerful business and planning ERP solution for digital transformation, especially in the cloud (SAP ERP Cloud).
With SAP Leonardo, SAP created an innovation tool that provided applications for the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics, among others. These Leonardo functions have since been integrated into the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). These innovations have strengthened SAP’s role as a leading provider of modern enterprise ERP software.
Using the SAP HANA platform, SAP S/4HANA can process and analyze complex and large-scale data in real time, as well as generate forecasts, visualize data, and run simulations. This enables companies to manage their business processes and planning activities much more efficiently.
The system’s high speed also allows machine failures or inventory shortages to be detected and resolved earlier, helping companies avoid costly production interruptions.
In addition, SAP S/4HANA introduces a completely new user interface with SAP Fiori. SAP Fiori is similar to consumer-grade applications and can be used by experienced users with little to no training.
Moreover, SAP Fiori is not limited to desktop use—it can also be accessed via smartphones and tablets. This significantly improves the user experience within ERP systems, especially in enterprise environments.
Another advantage of SAP S/4HANA is its much simpler structure compared to SAP ERP 6.0, both in terms of program/system architecture and the data model.
In comparison, SAP S/4HANA has roughly half the number of lines of code, data elements, and tables as SAP ERP 6.0. This “simplified” structure (also reflected in the “S” for “Simple” in its name) results not only in faster response times, but also in reduced maintenance effort and a higher pace of innovation.
SAP has also improved the role and authorization system: users are now granted access only to the applications that are actually relevant to them.
