Roadmap: Tadano opts for Greenfield and SAP Private Cloud

How can a SAP ECC landscape that has evolved over time be optimally harmonised as part of the migration to SAP S/4HANA? That was the starting point for the Roadmap project at Tadano, a world-leading manufacturer of cranes and lifting equipment.

“The complexity of our SAP landscape was partly due to its evolution over time – but also the result of a partial consolidation of legacy systems. It was quite maintenance-intensive. To prepare for the switchover to SAP S/4HANA and to derive the greatest possible benefit from the transformation, we launched a Roadmap program with GAMBIT in September 2024,” recalls Andreas Sigl, General Manager IT Applications & Process Management at Tadano.

With a GAMBIT Roadmap program, companies lay the foundation for successful implementation projects. This is not just about technical feasibility, but above all about the strategic, organisational and economic issues that are relevant to management decisions.

The aim of the preliminary study at Tadano was to evaluate the ideal path to SAP S/4HANA. The target vision included the consolidation of the three European ECC systems into one central SAP S/4HANA system and – following the conversion of the Japanese SAP ECC system – the integration of the new system into the new landscape. 

“GAMBIT supported us from the outset in a competent, structured and collaborative manner,” says Tadano’s Andreas Sigl. “The process model suited us perfectly. We were able to evaluate all options objectively and gained the exact clarity we needed regarding the Brownfield and Greenfield migration scenarios and the target system architecture. The roadmap absolutely convinced us!”

The findings of the preliminary study for the joint implementation project, which is now already underway, were clear: Greenfield (new implementation) as the migration approach for the three SAP systems, the Private Cloud as the operating model, and RISE with SAP as the methodology for the transformation.

“Based on the Roadmap, we are now implementing the project and will be ideally positioned in terms of technology, processes and organisation,” says Andreas Sigl. “A high percentage of SAP Best Practices and the integrated use of AI will ensure stable and efficient processes and provide the transparency we require in a global environment.”
